Solution
A Western Australian client had 2 stage bronze pump that was only lasting between 6 – 12 months, far less than the submersible motor which had a maintenance schedule of 4 years. They wanted to improve the pump life cycle in line with that of the submersible motor. We recommended reverse engineering the pump with modifications to materials and hydraulics.
The original components were in very poor condition, however 3D scanning and modelling were employed to generate wax models. Through the lost wax process, these printed models were used to cast in super duplex material. No expensive pattern costs were required.
The improved pump matched the life cycle of the motor, saving the client on downtime and maintenance and replacement costs. The new lead time was 12 months shorter than provided by the OEM.
